The Bainbridge boys basketball team got off to a good start, then held off a late charging Chief Sealth to win 61-50 and move on to the Metro League championship game Saturday night.

The Spartans were up 15-6 after the first period as the Seahawks had trouble connecting from anywhere, including several shots inside.

They increased their lead to 20-8 after a Caleb Davis three and had a comfortable 34-18 lead at halftime.

Bainbridge pushed it up to 20 in the third, but Sealth used their speed to force Bainbridge into some turnovers and started knocking down shots to cut the lead considerably.

They got as close as seven, but Nyandigisi Moikobu missed three of four foul shots while Austin Wood came up with four crucial points late in the period to ensure the win.

Gray finished with 13 points, 19 rebounds, nine assists and five steals.

Gibler finished with 17 points, ten rebounds, seven blocks and two assists.

Wood had 13 points and five rebounds, while Davis had 10 points.

Melvin Jones and Moikobu had 18 points apiece.

Bainbridge outrebounded Sealth 43 to 24, but the Spartans did commit 19 turnovers.

With the win, Bainbridge plays Rainier Beach for the Metro League title and the number one seed at districts at 7:45 p.m. at Seattle Pacific University.

Both the number one and number two seed get byes to the district quarterfinals.
