Bainbridge Island plans to update its 19-year-old sewer plan by spring 2014, and the city council will review information gathered by the General Sewer Plan advisory committee at this Wednesday’s regular business meeting.

As part of the plan update, the city and advisory committee will discuss various sewer service policies, including sewer extensions, environmental stewardship, financing, design criteria and system reliability.

Over the summer, the advisory committee, which is made up of members from the Planning Commission, Utility Advisory Committee and Technical Environmental Advisory Committee, identified three sewer service areas on the island for engineers to study.

At this week’s council meeting, Interim Public Works Director John Cunningham will talk about the south island, downtown Winslow and mid-island neighborhood service areas.

Further discussion by the advisory committee over sewer service policy will continue from October to December 2013.

City staff plan to bring a draft of the updated General Sewer Plan back to the council for approval by March 2014.

The deadline to submit the completed plan to the state Department of Ecology is June 30, 2014.

Discussion on the General Sewer Plan will be held at 8:20 p.m. during the city council’s “unfinished business” portion of the agenda.

The council meets at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at city hall.
