Bainbridge blotter | Traffic circle smash-up

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 12

10:23 a.m. A 65-year-old Bainbridge man reported the theft of a green Subaru Legacy from his property in the 8800 block of Lovgreen Road.

The man said the vehicle was parked on his property so he could work on it, and the keys had been left in the vehicle.

The man said the Subaru would have needed a jump start to get going, but was otherwise functional. He had last seen the Subaru on Sunday.

2:15 p.m. A 76-year-old Bainbridge woman was cited for inattentive driving after her 2001 Ford Explorer hit a 2010 Volvo XC60 with a 73-year-old Bainbridge woman behind the wheel in the traffic circle on High School Road at Madison Avenue.

The woman in the Volvo was already in the traffic circle when the Ford struck her vehicle on the front passenger side door and quarter panel.

3 p.m. A 17-year-old Indianola man was cited for negligent driving after police found his 2004 Nissan 350Z in a ditch at the southwest corner of Fletcher Bay Road NE and Lynwood Center Road NE. The Nissan was found 12 feet down an embankment, and a fresh skid mark was visible for 200 feet along the dirt and gravel shoulder.

While conducting inventory for a vehicle impound, the officer found the driver’s intermediate license, school supplies and a Bainbridge High parking pass. Those items and a laptop computer were placed into evidence.

Police determined the driver had been negligent due to the extended skid mark; the route of travel and the final resting place of the vehicle indicated the driver was going at a high rate of speed while approaching a stop sign at the downhill intersection.
