Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

FRIDAY, MARCH 18

11:29 a.m. A 66-year-old Bainbridge Island man reported that the street side mailbox at his home on Komedal Road NE had been opened, “sometime between Wednesday p.m. and Thursday a.m.”

The man said he has an alarm on his mailbox and each time it’s opened a light goes on and the alarm goes off. He added that since he had collected his mail promptly on Wednesday and the unauthorized access occurred very early in the day, there was probably nothing in the box to steal, though there had been previous mail thefts in the area.

THURSDAY, MARCH 17

2:39 p.m. A 61-year-old man reported the theft of a dock cart valued at about $160 from his Parfitt Way home. The man said at first he thought his friend had borrowed the cart, but as it had been missing for a while, he was now certain it was stolen.

2:40 p.m. Police responded to a theft reported at Eagle Harbor Congregational Church. A 12-inch pan, a cooking pot, a cloth tool bag (but not the tools that had been in it), a pair of blue tinted safety glasses, a white bath towel and a single Master Lock key on a yellow fob were reported missing.

The church volunteer who reported the theft did suggest a suspect known to frequent the area, but admitted there was nothing specific to tie the man to the incident other than his being “scary and peculiar.”

4:55 p.m. A 50-year-old Bainbridge Island woman reported that someone had spray painted and damaged “a few” trees on the Suzuki property. She and a neighbor also cleaned up litter nearby in the “interior forest” area.

“I’m not sure if there’s anything you can do about it,” she said. “But I thought the police should know.”

Police confirmed the city wasn’t currently doing any tree inventory or survey work on the site.
