Monday, Sept. 16

9:14 a.m. An island resident reported her vehicle had been damaged while parked on Winslow Way. She had left the car parked at a private parking lot on Sept. 15 to attend a Seahawks game in Seattle. Several hours later, she returned to find it had been severely keyed in several places.

One gash was approximately 18 inches that extended from her rear window to her hatchback. The scratch reached below the paint primer and into the metal. It also left a dent. Officers estimated the damage to be about $2,000.

10:40 a.m. Officers were dispatched to the Town & Country parking lot to respond to a dispute over a car door that may have hit a parked car. A woman approached officers and explained that a man parked next to her vehicle had opened his car door and caused damage. She requested he provide her with insurance information, to which he refused.

He later explained that the damage she referred to was not made by him. The woman showed officers a vertical mark on her right front fender. Officers noted that the damage she indicated was among several other marks and scratches on her vehicle, including several horizontal scratches on the fender just 4 inches away from where she pointed.

Since both vehicles were parked at the time of the incident and it did not appear the man hit her vehicle intentionally with his car door, officers explained it would not be considered a criminal act.
