TUESDAY, APRIL 19

12:07 a.m. An officer observed a man on a black bicycle riding north on Highway 305 and going against traffic in the middle of the southbound lane.

Police contacted him and stopped him on Day Road.

When the bicyclist, a 21-year-old Port Townsend man, was stopped in the middle of Day Road, he began filming and narrating to his phone. The officer asked him to move out of the middle of the road.

The bicyclist was told that cyclists are required to wear helmets and have lights and reflectors. The man said he couldn’t wear a helmet because he didn’t have one.

When told that didn’t change the law, he asked for a ticket. But when the officer asked for his name, he would not give it. He repeatedly refused to give his name and became angry.

Another officer responded to the scene and tried to persuade the man to give his name to avoid arrest.

The bicyclist then became increasingly agitated, saying, “I’m going to flip the [expletive] out!”

He then added, “It’s going down, bro. If I’m going down, you’re going down with me!”

Police called for more backup.

When an officer told him if he didn’t provide his name, it would become a criminal matter, the man yelled, “Take me to jail cause I’m tired of [expletive]. AAAHHH!” and threw his bike down, threw his hat on the ground and started advancing on the officer.

The officer started to back up and another officer pulled out a Taser and told the cyclist to step back. The man then stopped and put his hands up.

Police handcuffed him and he became compliant. A folding knife was found in his right front pocket, along with a small prescription bottle that appeared to contain marijuana.

An officer retrieved a driver’s license from the man’s wallet, and police discovered he was wanted on a warrant out of Puyallup.

He was booked into Kitsap County Jail.
