Wednesday, Jan. 15
2:47 p.m. A driver drove a vehicle off Manitou Beach Drive into a tree area behind the Messenger House. Upon arrival, police found a cloud of black smoke and Bainbridge Island Fire Department crews dousing out the vehicle, which was on fire.
The driver received scrapes on his forehead and arms, and had abdominal pains.
Before he was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, he told police he only remembered driving halfway down the hill on Mountain View Drive. He could not recall what happened or how he ended up driving off the road. The vehicle was a total loss.
Tuesday, Jan. 21
2:02 p.m. A student at Eagle Harbor High School was found in possession of marijuana and a glass smoking pipe.
4:49 p.m. Emergency services were called on a report of a fuel spill at a residence. The homeowner told police that an unknown person had opened the valve on their oil tank the previous weekend.
The tank was located on the side of the house, and about 50 to 100 gallons of oil for the resident’s heater was lost. The homeowner told officers that he had spent the last several days cleaning up the fuel which ran down the road.
Fire department personnel advised that there did not seem to be any hazard. The homeowner was unable to identify a possible suspect.
Wednesday, Jan. 22
11:34 a.m. A cyclist called police after two neighborhood dogs ran at his bicycle causing him to hit a third dog and crash into a ditch.
According to the cyclist, the dogs have a history of chasing cars and this was the second time they had charged him while biking down Mandus Olson Road.
As police spoke to the cyclist, the owner of two of the dogs drove up. When he identified himself as the owner, the cyclist “went off” and threatened to shoot the dogs.
The dog owner told officers that the younger of his two dogs had a history of behavioral problems before he got it. The older dog was now apparently following the lead of the younger animal.
The dog owner and the owner of the third dog were informed that a report would be forwarded to Kitsap Animal Control.
