5,300 gallons of sewage spills into harbor off Winslow

No contact advisory in effect through Jan. 1

Bainbridge Island Public Works has reported a 5,300 gallon sewage spill in Eagle Harbor over the weekend.

A no-contact advisory has been put into effect by the Kitsap Public Health District.

Signs have been posted at public access points.

The public is advised to avoid contact with water in the affected area, which includes all of the harbor.

The health district, through Jan. 1, recommends against swimming, wading or other types of water recreation that could cause water to be swallowed or get into the mouth, nose or eyes.

People should avoid direct skin contact and if exposed immediately wash with soap and clean water.

The reason for the spill has not yet been reported by public works. The source of the spill was the northeast portion of the harbor.
