2 from BI National Merit Scholars

Two Bainbridge high school students are National Merit Scholarship winners, it was announced June 1.

Lyra E. Cromwell of Eagle Harbor High and Lila R. Schroer of Bainbridge High have received the prestigious awards.

Cromwell is undecided on a career, but she will be attending Harvey Mudd College of Engineering & Science in Claremont, CA. It is one of six Claremont Colleges, where students interact in academic, social and cultural activities. The highly selective college has an enrollment of 540with a faculty/student ratio of 1:8. The college combines a rigorous scientific education with one-third of the coursework required in the humanities and social sciences.

Schroer’s probable career field is nursing. She plans to attend Case Western Reserve University located in Cleveland in University Circle, the educational and cultural center of northeast Ohio. It offers programs in small residential colleges, each with its own governing assembly of faculty and students, within a major private university. Case Institute of Technology offers the bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science and Management, while Western Reserve College offers the bachelor’s degree with majors in Liberal Arts and Sciences.
