Art Walk this Friday

Art Walk: Bainbridge Arts and Crafts and other downtown galleries will offer new exhibits and artists’ receptions from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 6 in downtown Winslow.

The BAC show features mother and daughter artists, Michèle Van Slyke and Solia Hermes.

Their sculptural work focuses on their connections to Bainbridge Island, and to one another.

BAC also exhibits photographs of five artists in “Women Behind the Lens.”

The photographers include Cameron Bahnson, Deb Casso, Colleen Meacham, Diane Walker, and Kay Walsh all of which have been exploring surprisingly similar territory. Diane Walker calls it “Contemplative Photography;” Colleen Meacham writes that she explores the landscape with a minimalist view in search of a meditative and peaceful quality, remembering that “less is more.” Deb Casso has been on Puget Sound when “the light is scarce and changing rapidly,” looking for the “fringe of the day.” Kay Walsh describes her landscape photography as “an art for the patient seeker of drama.” Cameron Bahnson, quoting James Joyce, says that she is looking for “the radiance of the commonest object.”

Planetarium show

The Battle Point Astronomical Association (BPAA) is moonstruck. “Many Moons,” a free planetarium show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 7, in the Helix House at Battle Point Park.
