Dive deep into joy, laughter, and nautical nonsense during The SpongeBob Musical at Bainbridge Performing Arts, which runs through May 18 at The Buxton Center for Bainbridge Performing Arts.
When Bikini Bottom is threatened by the impending eruption of Mount Humongous, it’s up to SpongeBob and his friends to save the day, per a news release. What follows is an explosion of color, music, and community as the citizens of the sea learn what really matters when everything’s at stake.
Reese Sigman stars as the ever-hopeful SpongeBob SquarePants, joined by Dana A. Benson as best friend Patrick Star, Franco Benico Weaver as the perpetually unimpressed Squidward, and Anna Vizzare as the fiercely brilliant Sandy Cheeks. The production features over 30 performers, including a dynamic ensemble and a live band bringing the music to life with infectious energy.
“This is one of the most imaginative and joy-filled shows we’ve ever staged at BPA,” the release says. “It’s colorful and funny, but there’s also a deep message about community, resilience, and the power of optimism.”
The production is backed by a big team: music direction by Shawna Avinger, choreography by Laura McFarlane, scenic design by Erik Furuheim, costumes by Dawn Janow, and lighting by Rob Falk. Associate choreographer Elizabeth Posluns, assistant director Amy Jo LaRubbio, and projection designer Matt Longmire round out the creative team all organized by Producer Deirdre Hadlock. The musical features a live orchestra with more than a dozen musicians performing original songs by artists like David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, Panic! At the Disco, and John Legend.
Regular ticket prices are $35, with $30 tickets available for seniors, students, military, and educators.
