Bainbridge Cinemas will screen the iconic science fiction classic “Planet of the Apes” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27.

The 1968 film will be accompanied by special commentary from Turner Classic Movie hosts, who will provide insight and background making the film come even more alive.

Charlton Heston — the staple sci-fi star of “The Omega Man” (1971) and “Soylent Green” (1973) — and Roddy McDowall star in this legendary dystopian masterpiece wherein misanthropic astronaut Taylor (Heston) crash lands on what he believes to be a distant planet which is ruled by apes who use a primitive race of humans for experimentation and sport. Soon he finds himself among the hunted, his life in the hands of a benevolent chimpanzee scientist (McDowall).

The film won an honorary Academy Award for John Chambers for his outstanding make-up achievement, and was also nominated for Best Costume Design (Morton Haack) and Best Original Score for a Motion Picture – Not a Musical (Jerry Goldsmith). It appears on numerous “Best Of” lists and spawned several sequels and reboots.

This screening will show the film in the same aspect ratio as when it was originally released in cinemas in 1968.

Tickets are $10.50 for adults and $8.50 for children and seniors.
