Marty McFly returns just in time

Reportedly, legendary Hollywood director Robert Zemeckis said he knew even back in 1989 that there would not yet be flying cars by the year 2015.

But that didn’t stop him from creating such myths in the minds of a generation of young moviegoers who, upon viewing Marty McFly swoop around on a hoverboard and cool Nike shoes that tie themselves in “Back to the Future Part II,” got really psyched for 2015.

Of course, here we are rapidly approaching the date to which McFly and “Doc” Brown set out for in the beloved ’80s sequel — Oct. 21, 2015 — and we are, sadly, still sans flying skateboards.

Still, the movie remains culturally significant and was the third-highest grossing film of the year — and, quite honestly, the last installment in the series anybody really needs to see more than once. So, in celebration of the arrival of the film’s destination date, “Back to the Future Part II” will play for one-day-only at Bainbridge Cinemas at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21.
