Lynwood Theatre has new options for the hearing impaired

Kitsap moviegoers who are hearing impaired will now have the opportunity to experience first run movies with open captioning every Tuesday at the Lynwood Theatre.

Kitsap moviegoers who are hearing impaired will now have the opportunity to experience first run movies with open captioning every Tuesday at the Lynwood Theatre.

Open captioning is a process that displays actual dialog on the bottom of the screen similar to the format used for foreign language films. This extra service will be provided at no additional cost and will coincide with “Senior Tuesday,” when admission will remain $6.50 for guests age 60 and above.

A specific show time will be noted each week on the theater website, movie line phone number (206-842-3080) and e-mail newsletter (visit www.farawayentertainment.com/weekly-movie-newsletter to subscribe).

In future weeks, open captioned films will be shown each Tuesday, alternating with afternoon and evening shows. The theatre will continue to have headsets available that also boost volume.

“Many of our frequent movie-goers have been urging us to offer open captioned films for themselves, family members and friends,” said Jeff Brein, co-owner of the theater. “We have been working with our friends at Wash-CAP, the Washington State Communications Access Project, to identify ways for hearing impaired moviegoers to enjoy increased access to the quality entertainment we present.”

The historic Lynwood Theatre is located at 4569 Lynwood Center Road NE.
