“Being the guardian of all things evidence is an essential responsibility in law enforcement,” said Jennifer Cooper, evidence technician at the Bainbridge Island Police Department.
It’s a small room and Jennifer needs to dispose of property, (by having it destroyed or returning it), at least at the same rate as taking it in. That’s a challenge as population growth on the island means more crime and more evidence to process.
Maintaining a strict chain of custody process is the reason I was not allowed to cross the double-door threshold of the Evidence Room. So I’ll look in from this side at a wall of boxes and manila envelopes full of evidence and stories from this place.
