Bainbridge Performing Arts revealed their 2017-18 season lineup recently, promising a plethora of productions, some classic and some lesser-known.
In October, “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert – The Musical” is on tap.
It recounts the heartwarming, uplifting adventure of three friends — Tick, Bernadette and Adam — a glamorous Sydney-based performing trio who take their show to the middle of the Australian outback. They hop aboard a battered old bus (nicknamed Priscilla) searching for love and friendship and end up reaching their wildest dreams.
In December, audiences can take a fantastic musical ride with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas.
Based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming’s children’s book, and featuring an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” is one family-friendly adventure that crowds will find “Truly Scrumptious.”
In March 2018, “Peter and the Starcatcher” will take the stage.
The Tony Award-winning production upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be famous Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (aka Peter Pan). From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, this wildly theatrical adaptation playfully explores the depths of greed and despair — and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.
In May 2018, “Bullets Over Broadway” is set to make a bang.
Loaded with big laughs, colorful characters and the songs that made the ‘20s roar, this musical, based on the screenplay of the acclaimed 1994 film by Woody Allen and Douglas McGrath, is a six-time Tony-nominated show that features hits from the 1920s, including “Let’s Misbehave,” “‘Tain’t Nobody’s Biz-ness If I Do” and “There’s a New Day Comin’!”
Next Summer, BPA will bring to the Bloedel Reserve of the Bard’s most popular romantic tragedies: “Romeo and Juliet.” No introduction required.
