Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network will host a special two-day playwriting workshop, taught by Mark Harvey Levine, starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 19.

Registration is now open. The cost to attend is $250 for members, $265 for nonmembers.

Levine will lead students through the writing of an entire play from scratch in just two days. He will cover everything from format, plot, character, dialog and scene, to the sale and production of a 10-minute play.

Written materials and handouts will be distributed.

Participants will learn how to come up with ideas and what to do — and what not to do — in a script, and will learn several different techniques for writing first drafts and how to approach rewrites. Levine will teach how to read and discuss each others’ works with a critical eye.

Finally, he will share his expertise on where to submit your play to get it into theaters, festivals and contests and how to market it.

Levine is one of the modern masters of the short play. He has had more than 1,300 productions of his plays take the stage around the world.

One of Levine’s short plays, “The Kiss,” was made into a Spanish-language short film called “El Beso,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was accepted into numerous other film festivals including the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. It later aired on HBO.

Levine is a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University’s School of Drama. Originally from Pittsburgh, he now lives in the Los Angeles area.
