Anthology explores Bainbridge in brief

Eagle Harbor Book Company will host the local authors’ group Winslow Writers to celebrate the release of their first short story collection “Winslow Writers: Short Stories of Bainbridge Island” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3.

“Write what you know” is the conventional wisdom given to most writers.

Winslow Writers — Abigail Hamilton, Lara O’Neal, Jessica Dubey, Starre Vartan and Ulla Solberg — took that advice to heart and produced this anthology, edited by Kirsten Foster and published by Red Rover Books. These five stories address themes of love, loss, and redemption as reflected through the unique lens of island culture.

“A ‘sense of place’ may be an overused phrase, but it is entirely necessary to describe the powerful effect these stories create and carry,” Foster said. “The place is now familiar yet still strange, soothing yet challenging, dramatic, mundane, gorgeous, sometimes menacing. I can only imagine their impact on off-island readers.”
