To the editor:

The city of Bainbridge Island is saying they will have to reduce their parking enforcement staff to just one person.

Why has the city of Bainbridge Island repeatedly failed to form a senior volunteer parking enforcement staff like Poulsbo and Silverdale have? It seems to work fine in those cities, so why not Bainbridge?

It would be especially helpful at Safeway where motorcycle and scooter riders constantly park on the diagonal striping next to the disabled parking spaces.

Don’t these people realize those stripes are painted there for a reason? They are called “access aisles” and they provide room for people with wheelchair vans, wheelchairs, walkers etc. to exit and enter their vehicles.

This is obstructing the disabled parking spaces and carries the same fine as if they parked in the actual parking space. It is not only illegal but also very inconsiderate.

Short of designating actual motorcycle/scooter parking spaces, why can’t these people park in a regular parking space like everyone else?
