Spence not pushing a personal agenda | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

I’m writing to ask voters to support Mike Spence for school board director.

After nine years, I will be stepping down from the board after this election. During my tenure, I’ve observed three qualities that make a successful board member.

First is the absence of a personal agenda. It’s important to address each issue with fresh eyes and a reasoned, critical analysis.

Second is the ability to engage in respectful public discourse even when one’s opinions are different from one’s colleagues and community. And once a decision is made, even though it may be different from what one wanted, move on.

Third, is a thorough knowledge of what a director’s responsibilities are, vis-à-vis the school district, local taxpayers, and the state, and then act and communicate within that sphere.

Mike has these qualities in spades, and he infuses them with honesty and integrity. He has a responsible, seasoned four years of service to the school district and to our citizens.

He’s earned my vote, and

I encourage you to give him yours.

MARY CURTIS
