Shiny new building serves as an inspiration | Letters | Jan. 23

Last Saturday (Jan. 10) saw the grand opening of the new 200 Building at Bainbridge High School, containing the new library, administrative offices, 18 classrooms and commons/cafeteria.

For anyone who could not attend the event, I urge you to arrange a visit. The new building is literally inspirational – both functionally and aesthetically. In its uses of light, space and materials over multiple levels, the new structure provides a wonderful environment for students, staff and visitors.

As a taxpayer, I believe this truly represents money well-spent. The new building creates inviting spaces that encourage learning, listening and connections between students and teachers. The building will improve our kids’ education opportunities.

As someone involved in real estate development, I can tell you that completing a large development like this on time and on budget is no small task. The district should be applauded for its careful management of a complex construction project.

The bond passage spoke well of our community and the finished product has lived up to that trust. A large portion of the credit is due to the efforts of our school board and the school district staff – especially District Facilities Director Tamela Van Winkle, who did a brilliant job of managing the entire process.

As the next phase of the district’s Master Facilities Plan is rolled out to the community this year, I urge everyone to remember the quality of design and execution that we have seen on this first phase. Thank you, Bainbridge Island School District, for all you do for our kids.
