The yellow flowers of Scotch broom are back! Please join the Weed Warriors, Noxious Weed Advisors, Bainbridge Island Land Trust, Student Conservation Corp, city of Bainbridge Island, Bainbridge parks and Sustainable Bainbridge in busting the bloom!

These groups have formed a coalition to control and remove Scotch broom from our beautiful island. The theme is “Let’s Pull Together!”

We can and should remove Scotch broom anytime of the year, but May and June are prime times since the plants are so visible and if cut or removed soon enough seeds will not be viable. If pulled out or cut to the ground before seeds set, you can prevent thousands of new plants.

Why should you do this? For one thing, it’s the law. This Class B plant is on the Washington State Noxious Weed List. For more information go to kitsap.wsu.edu/noxious_weed/weed_list.htm

We encourage landowners to remove all Scotch broom from your property. If you would like advice or assistance please call Len Beil at 206-387-0904 or e-mail me at lenbeil3@msn.com.
