To the editor:

It was with dismay that I read that teacher Karen Keller will not allow boys to play with Legos, which she has reserved for girls only.

I don’t know which is more upsetting to me: that she has chosen to do this in a time when boys are increasingly falling behind in school and in need of encouragement, or the callousness she exhibits when leading boys to believe they will have a turn while at the same time thinking “when hell freezes over.”

Lying to her students should not be tolerated. Playing with Legos may be particularly important to those students who struggle with academics; keeping them from this opportunity is cruel. Legos should be available to all of Ms. Keller’s students.
