To the editor:

The harrowing pictures and stories from fires in Australia have heightened many folks concerns about the increasingly clear impact of climate change. While no single event can of course be attributed to climate change, the increased range and severity of the fires we’re seeing in Australia and in the western U.S. are a very predictable outcome. I believe most Americans understand this but wonder: What can we really do?

That’s why several Bainbridge organizations have invited Rep. Derek Kilmer, State Sen. Christine Rolfes and Councilman Joe Deets to discuss the 2020 Climate Legislative Agenda on Saturday, Jan. 11.

The forum will be at the Bainbridge Public Library at 10 a.m. I hope many islanders and others join us at this forum to ask our elected representatives what they’re doing to reduce the risks of climate change — and embrace the huge economic opportunity a transition to clean, sustainable energy offers. I hope you’ll join us.
