To the editor:

The Board of Island Volunteer Caregivers would like to thank the city of Bainbridge Island for working effectively and collaboratively with the 11 human services organizations regarding the administration of the funds to support these valuable organizations each year.

All 11 of the organizations who have received funding in the past were invited to participate and provide input toward the development of a method for allocation and accountability for the $300,000 plus apportionment.  Island Volunteer Caregivers is one of the 11 organizations who receive funds from the city and are appreciative of the thoughtful and objective process and results.

There were multiple meetings between the city officials and directors of the human services organizations as well as several meetings among the directors independently. Additionally, there were two city council study sessions, which were open to the public for comment.

We believe that the process for allocation, accountability and oversight adopted by the city will ensure our tax dollars are wisely spent and protect the interests of Bainbridge Island residents. All of the human service organizations that receive funding from the city of Bainbridge Island provide invaluable services to Island residents and we look forward to working together collaboratively.
