To the editor:

During this time of Thanksgiving and celebration, it seems appropriate to remember how our community came together to plan and develop the Waypoint project, at the corner of Highway 305 and Winslow Way.

Through the hard work of literally hundreds of volunteers and contributors, the Waypoint project turned an old gas station site from an embarrassing eyesore into a welcoming gateway for our island. But more than that, the project stands as a symbol of how a community collaboration of diverse individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations can pull together to build something beautiful and long lasting.

As a cornerstone that continues to welcome citizens and visitors to and from our Island, the Waypoint is a constant reminder of what can be accomplished when a community comes together with a common goal.

Thank you — to all who helped create this place of beauty and peace.
