To the editor:

This year, the national election for president has given new credibility to the axiom, “every vote counts.”

Across the country, in Republican-run states, we have seen major efforts to control the vote by way of voter ID laws, restrictions on voter registration and early voting, and other forms of intimidation.

Recently, it was revealed that several large corporations sent out Romney endorsement letters that link employee job security to a Romney vote.

Major economic indicators show that the economy is improving and the growth of the debt is slowing, despite GOP efforts to bring down the president by opposing and blocking any proposal which would benefit the recovery.

Obama cares, and he has done, and will continue to do, everything in his power to save the middle class.

A great deal is at stake in this election. It will be up to us, the voters, the people, to oppose plutocratic rule, to safeguard the environment, green energy jobs, women’s reproductive rights, health reform, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, public education, and immigration reform.

We know this will be a close election for President Obama and Jay Inslee for governor. Your vote counts.
