Editorial should prompt apology | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor: If Rupert Murdoch could apologize internationally as he did on Monday (Jan. 28) for an offensive cartoon placed in London-based Sunday Times that was disrespectful of Israel’s Netanyahu, cannot the Bainbridge Review (and Black Press, Canada which owns it) apologize for an offensive editorial that was disrespectful to a former Bainbridge Island council member?

To the editor:

If Rupert Murdoch could apologize internationally as he did on Monday (Jan. 28) for an offensive cartoon placed in London-based Sunday Times that was disrespectful of Israel’s Netanyahu, cannot the Bainbridge Review (and Black Press, Canada which owns it) apologize for an offensive editorial that was disrespectful to a former Bainbridge Island council member?

Will Black Press and the Bainbridge Island Review let Rupert Murdoch demonstrate a greater level of integrity than its own press and editors?

According to the above mentioned article, The Sunday Times’s acting editor [Martin Ivens] was due to meet Jewish community leaders in Britain on Tuesday to express his regrets over the cartoon, said a spokesman for Murdoch’s News International, the paper’s publisher.

Murdoch said Scarfe [the cartoonist] had never reflected the opinions of the Sunday Times. “Nevertheless, we owe major apology for grotesque, offensive cartoon,” he said in a Twitter message.
