Drivers are the problem | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

Recent articles have been written about the three accidents on Highway 305. Unfortunately, one resulting in a fatality.

In the following weeks several letters were written stating that Highway 305 was a problem.

I agree with Ed Smith who wrote in that drivers were the cause, not necessarily his words but mine, as drivers speed, text, talk on the phone, are in a hurry, are inconsiderate and impatient. If drivers would obey the laws, not follow too close, take time to calculate if they really have enough time to enter the highway with cars or trucks heading their way.

Does anyone really know how much time it takes for a driver of a boxcar to fully stop their truck or how far they travel before they can stop or avoid a slower moving car attempting to enter or cross the highway?

The highway is not the problem.

The drivers are. Maybe consider, if you need to get off Island, checking the ferry schedule. Gauge your time on the highway around the ferry schedule. Give yourself enough to get where you are going so that you aren’t in a rush or have to take a risk or endanger others.

Life is so much more important than that appointment, date, catching the ferry or just going on a Sunday drive.

Slow down, be alert, follow the speed limit and be patient.
