Commission failing police rank and file | Letters | Sept. 9

Thank you for your coverage of the Bainbridge Island Civil Service Commission and its decision to terminate my contract as secretary/chief examiner.

Thank you for your coverage of the Bainbridge Island Civil Service Commission and its decision to terminate my contract as secretary/chief examiner.

I suspect the attention will have positive long-term effects on our government and police department.

My situation is complicated, but the questions raised are simple: What are the rules that control who gets to be a police officer on Bainbridge? How do our city leaders react to a whistleblower expressing concern that rules are being broken?

One personal comment. I have had the privilege of getting to know many of the officers at BIPD. The officers that I know have talent, intelligence and integrity, and it has been an honor to be of service to them as secretary/chief examiner.

The concerns I have raised, and will continue to raise, are directed at those with an obligation to follow and enforce civil service laws and rules: commissioners, the city manager, and the BIPD chief of police. Rank and file suffers, like we all do, when these laws and rules are broken.
