I oppose Barry Peters’ car tabfee – and support council members who hold fast to getting city finances in order before taking more money from citizens.

Here’s why: First, the economy is down – we don’t have the funds to give to you.

Second, cut your nonessentials first. For example: Broadcasting council meetings on TV is not essential. (See Port Orchard: low-cost internet broadcast.) Dollars for arts are not essential.

Fixing upper Fort Ward Hill Road – where I live, and it’s bad – has been on and off the city budget since the early ‘90s, Meanwhile the council/mayor have squandered millions on legal fees, mega-garage plans, bloated staffing, consultants, the Quay Apartment (affordable housing), Winslow Never, et cetera. Tax money that should have gone for roads was squandered.

Do the hard work before you take more money from citizens.
