3A STATE: Racqueteers in line to earn trophies, Brink takes fifth at state in discus

All five of Bainbridge’s tennis players are still alive in the 3A state tennis tournament in Kennewick.

Sasha Carter faced little opposition as she beat Emma Liemback of Yelm 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round, then defeated Mackenzie Bang of Shorewood 6-0, 6-2 to reach the semifinals.

She will meet Chelsea Bailey of Mercer Island. If she beats her, she may face Natalie Allen of Holy Names, who is in the other semifinal.

The girls’ doubles team of Grace Porter and Kate Jameson are in the semifinals as they beat Rebecca Johnson and Gina Saunders of Enumclaw 6-2, 6-1, then beat Jessie Barth and Lauren Archibald of University (Spokane) 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 to head into the semifinals.

They will face familiar foes in Barbara Ann Carey and Sarah Newman of Seattle Prep. If Porter and Jameson win they may see Kelly Crandall and Nora Tan of Mercer Island.

Scott and Matt Alderson lost their first match to Joel Richardson and Jacob Yannello of Lakes 7-5, 6-2, but then defeated Hunter Nelson and Miles Jameson of Shorewood 6-4, 6-3, then outlasted Erik Snyder and Jeremy Chow of Mercer Island 7-6 (3-7), 6-4, 6-0. They will play Peter Koessler and Josiah Thomas of Wilson for fifth/eighth place.

At Star Track at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma, Cameron Brink took fifth in the discus with a throw of 149 feet, 10 inches. Jon Lawson of Prairie won with a throw of 189 feet, 11 inches.

Mark Smith competes in the high jump at 1:40 p.m.

The boys’ lacrosse team plays Mercer Island at Memorial Stadium at Seattle Center at 7:30 p.m. Bainbridge is looking for its first title since 2007.
