Teri Dettmer has filed as a candidate for the Position 5 seat on the board of commissioners for the Bainbridge Island Fire Department.
Candidate Filing Week started Monday, May 13, and Dettmer was the first Bainbridge Island candidate to throw her hat into the ring for public office.
Dettmer has lived on Bainbridge Island for more than 17 years. A former attorney, she previously sought an appointed position on the commissioners’ board for the fire department in April 2012, after Susan Cohen stepped down from Position 3. That vacancy originally attracted seven candidates, and Dan Morrow was later picked to replace Cohen.
Position 5 is the seat formerly held by Glen Tyrrell.
Tyrrell resigned from his position in April, in preparation for his family’s move to Oregon.
The vacancy in the position is for a two-year, unexpired term.
Three other positions on the five-member board for the fire department will also be on the November ballot.
Paul Bang-Knudsen currently serves in Position 2, Morrow is the commissioner for Position 3, and Maureen Halligan holds Position 4.
