Holy Names outlasted Bainbridge 6-3 in girls varsity fastpitch softball early last week.
The disappointing outcome left the Spartans as the Metro League’s No. 2 seed entering the district tournament.
The Spartans jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but HNA answered with a run of their own to even the score.
Bainbridge rolled to a 2-1 lead after two, but the Crusaders answered in the bottom of the third inning and got the go-ahead run in the fourth to move in front, 3-2.
The back-and-forth affair continued into the fifth as the Spartans scored their final run, only to have Holy Names answer with a two-run sixth to seal the deal.
Malia Peato went six innings in the circle for BHS. She gave up 10 hits and six runs, and finished with five strike-outs.
Kensey Baker went 1-for-2 for the Spartans, and had an RBI.
Maddie Loverich was 2-for-4 with a run, while Peato was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Megan Spray finished with 1-for-3 batting, a double and a run.
