Power out in Winslow after truck hits power pole

A truck driver hit a power pole near the Bainbridge Ferry Terminal knocked out power in Winslow Thursday morning.

A truck driver hit a power pole near the Bainbridge Ferry Terminal knocked out power in Winslow Thursday morning.

The outage has darkened much of the area between Madison Avenue and Highway 305. Power was out at the Safeway and other stores in the Island Village Shopping Center.

Power was still on at Bainbridge High School, and the stoplights at the Highway 305-High School Road interchange were operational at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Assistant Chief Luke Carpenter of the Bainbridge Island Fire Department said a man in a light pickup truck was struck by another vehicle and the driver then hit a utility pole.

The man had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
