SEATTLE – The Bainbridge High varsity football team was defeated 56-27 in their final outing of the regular season last Friday, on the road against Eastside Catholic.
The loss left the Spartans with an overall season record of 1-7. The Crusaders advanced to 6-1.
Eastside Catholic leapt out in front in the first quarter with a commanding 33-0 lead, painting a dismal picture for the island squad early. The Spartans mounted a slight response in the second, but the half ultimately concluded 50-7.
The third quarter wasn’t much of an improvement for Bainbridge. They were kept scoreless again and despite greatly improved defensive showings, slipped another six points further behind EC.
The fourth quarter was a Bainbridge ball game all the way, however. The BHS team put 20 on the board and kept the Crusaders from notching even one more point.
Coltrane Brooks managed 54 passing yards throughout the game. Max McLeod completed 94 rushing yards and Ethan Peloquin led the pack with 54 receiving yards.
Despite the loss, at least one Spartan returned home with a win.
Eric Jung’s kickoff return, at first announced as 95 yards but later recorded as 97, reportedly broke the BHS record.
The old record of 95 yards was shared by Wayne Timmons (1995) and Angelo Rutelo (2003).
