Bainbridge to close Sunrise Drive NE

The city of Bainbridge Island will close Sunrise Drive NE between Roberts and Winther roads on Tuesday until further notice.

Earlier this year, the city approved a contract for repair work along Sunrise Drive, including the installation of a geosynthetic retaining wall because of slope failures along the stretch of road.

The city said it became aware of the possibility of the road shoulder and embankment being compromised due to emerging construction conditions on Monday, Oct. 14 and ordered the road closed.

City officials hope to have the road reopened by early November.
