Shir Hayam, a congregation of Jewish families that draws inspiration from the Renewal, Reconstructionist and Reform movements, invites members of the community to join its celebration of the Jewish High Holy Days, Sunday, Oct. 2 through Wednesday, Oct. 12.
In the Chavurah tradition, Shir Hayam meets in members’ homes rather than in a synagogue, and participates in traditions led by guest teachers and rabbis.
The congregation will gather for Erev Rosh Hashanah on Sunday, Oct. 2, pondering this year’s theme, “Mechaye Ha’Metim – Rebirth, Renewal, a Cycle of Endings and Beginnings.” Services will be followed by a potluck dessert.
The Rosh Hashanah services will take place on Monday, Oct. 3 and will also include a brown bag lunch and discussion. The new year’s services conclude with afternoon Taslich beside water.
Tuesday, Oct. 11, Shir Hayam will gather for Kol Nidre.
Shir Hayam will continue Yom Kippur observances with morning services on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Yizkor will follow in the afternoon with a children’s bibliodrama before the concluding Neilah evening services. A break-the-fast potluck will close the celebration.
