Woodshop group hosts fundraiser

Published 8:27 am Friday, June 5, 2009

Bainbridge wood carvers are offering a look inside a working woodshop Saturday.

From 3 to 5 p.m., visitors can see wood carving in action at the furniture shop of Robert Spangler, 8495 NE Oddfellows Rd. near the intersection with Blakely Avenue.

A “modest donation” is requested at the door. The event is being used as a fundraiser for the planned co-op island woodshop.

Since last winter, a group of woodworkers has been working with the Bainbridge Metropolitan Park and Recreation District to create a shop where members can share tools and knowledge.

According to organizer Roger Lauen, Strawberry Hill Park and Rotary Park are two locations being considered for the shop. Part of the idea behind the Saturday event is to demonstrate to the public the kind of activities involved with a woodshop.

The woodworkers hold regular meetings and are seeking non-profit status. For more, contact Lauen at roggadfly@msn.com.
