Recently appointed Kitsap County Commissioner Linda Streissguth will host two campaign kick-off events — including one on Bainbridge Island —as she launches her bid for a full four-year term on the board this month.
The first campaign event is 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 be at the Silverdale Beach Hotel.
The Bainbridge Island kick-off is 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 at Waterfront Park Community Center.
The public is welcome at both events.
Many elected officials and community leaders have signed onto Streissguth’s campaign and will be present at one or both of the events. Campaign organizers said a special guest will be introducing Commissioner Striessguth on March 18 in Silverdale.
Streissguth was appointed in January by the two sitting commissioners to represent Central Kitsap County. She was chosen to fill the vacancy left by Josh Brown’s early retirement and to finish his term on the board, which ends at the end of 2014.
Streissguth recently left Puget Sound Energy where she held the position of manager of community engagement. She said she brings a wealth of knowledge and relevant experience to the job with a strong background in community planning, infrastructure, transportation, public works projects, ordinance review, comprehensive plan and land-use issues and public policy, and noted such skills are critical as Kitsap County begins updating its comprehensive plan as mandated by the Legislature and Growth Management Act.
Preserving Kitsap’s quality of life is front and center for Streissguth, she said, and she will be discussing her vision at both of the upcoming events.
Streissguth lives in Bremerton with her husband, Kent, and two rescue cats.
