Bob Scales, a former Bainbridge Island City Council member, today announced his bid to become the city’s next mayor.

He announced his intent to run in a released statement, saying the city needs a leader “who can reform, reorganize and revitalize our city government.”

Scales served as a north-ward council member from 2004 through 2007. He works as a senior policy analyst for the City of Seattle.

“My first priority will be to repair the city’s dysfunctional management system so that we can reduce costs and operating expenses while improving efficiency and performance,” he said. “The city needs to be prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities facing our community in the coming years.”

Scales has already launched a Web site, www.scalesformayor.com, outlining his goals and qualifications for the position.

Mayoral elections will take place in November 2009 unless Bainbridge citizens opt to remove the office of mayor when a change-of-government referendum comes before voters later this year.
