It’s time again to eradicate lhat pest Scotch broom | Letters | May 28

May and June are the months to remove Scotch broom. If pulled out or cut to the ground before seeds set, you can prevent thousands of new plants.

Why should you do this? For one thing, it’s the law. This Class B plant is on the Washington State Noxious Weed List (WAC 16-750). For more information go to http://kitsap.wsu.edu/noxious_weed/weed_list.htm

Weed Warriors often do environmental restorations from 10 to noon on the first Saturday of the month, and June 5 is a work party at Blakely Park, which is just about broom-free after many years of effort.

But there’s still plenty of ivy, as well as other noxious weeds such as thistle, spurge laurel, blackberry, herb Robert and tansy ragwort. We hope to see you there – or out pulling Scotch broom anywhere!
