POLICE BLOTTER

Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents. See an interactive map of incidents below.

MAY 11

4:05 a.m. A Bainbridge police officer was adjusting the seat in his patrol car in a parking lot off Hildebrand Lane when his foot slipped off the brake pedal and onto the accelerator. The cruiser careened forward and the officer had to swerve to miss a fire hydrant. The cruiser proceeded over a curb and into a patch of landscaping, where it became high-centered on a rock. The cruiser sustained minor front-end damage.

9:30 a.m. A Bainbridge woman called police after her brother punched her Volkswagen Jetta, leaving a large dent. She said her brother had become enraged when he could not get his bicycle to fit in the car’s trunk. In a fit of frustration the man beat the Jetta with his fist and a U-lock from his bicycle, leaving a large dent and several gouges. The brother contradicted his sister’s story, saying his sister had actually tried to hit him with the car and he had smacked the car with an open hand. Damage to the car was estimated at $1,300. A report was sent to prosecutors.

11:48 p.m. An officer stopped a white pickup truck on SR-305 near Agatewood Drive, after watching it swerve over the fogline several times. The officer contacted the driver, a Bainbridge man, and noted a smell of intoxicants wafting from the truck’s cab. The man said he had only drunk “two big glasses of good wine” with dinner. The man agreed to voluntary field sobriety tests, which he performed sloppily on. He was arrested for driving under the influence and was transported to Kitsap County Jail. During booking his breath test registered a .093 blood alcohol content.

MAY 12

5:57 p.m. The back window of a Subaru Forester parked on Wing Point Drive was broken out. An officer found shattered glass around the SUV but could not find a projectile that could have caused the damage. Replacement was estimated at $400. No suspects.

MAY 13

11:32 p.m. A Fletcher Bay Road resident said someone had apparently tried to break into her home overnight. She discovered that a chain securing one of the entrances to her garage had been broken and a suspect had forced open the lock on the doorknob to gain access to the garage. But access to the main house was not achieved. The resident said she remembered hearing her dog barking early that morning, but assumed it was merely accosting a cat. Lock replacement was estimated at $200. No suspects.

MAY 15

12:57 p.m. A woman reported receiving harassing letters and damage to her Tormey Lane apartment. Last month she returned home to find that someone had filled her outside door locks with wax. Later she received a typed letter that read “Stop breaking into my residence. You are on video. Plus, I have a witness. Enjoying the car – psychopath.” On May 13 she found that her locks had been filled with superglue, which damaged them beyond repair. The woman said she could not think of any enemies she might have. No suspects.
