Hard work and acquiring new talent are what Bainbridge High School’s girls swim team is hoping to accomplish to achieve the rare feat of winning three state titles in a row.

The Spartans won the 2025 2A state meet at King County Aquatic Center earlier this month, beating out second-place North Kitsap by 200 points to claim their second straight state title.

“We have a lot more practices and we have morning swims and stuff,” Spartan Camden Brown said. “So I think we just work really hard.”

Bainbridge will be looking to repeat once again in 2026, bringing back 14 of their state swimmers in the process. Swimming itself can be a grueling sport for athletes, so the Spartans did a lot of visualization exercises and talks with each other in order to prepare for the mental side of performing at the state meet.

Spartan swimmer Olivia Longridge noted that it can be relatively easy to “get in your own head” about not being fast enough or comparing yourself to other swimmers at the meet.

“I think some of our visualizations are really helpful because you can imagine if something is wrong, and then if it does go wrong, you can just, you know, keep going,” Longridge said.

Bainbridge Island has a club team where many of the Spartan swimmers on the high school team have been training since they were seven or eight years old, dedicating time to practice over the summers.

If the Spartans complete the three-peat next season, it will be the first time it’s ever been done in school history. The girls’ team has won the state title seven times.
