Tennis courts are a great idea for Sakai | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:
I am so hoping that tennis courts will be built on the Sakai property.
When I moved to Bainbridge in 1972 there were 8,000 people. We had two good courts at Waterfront Park, and I enjoyed playing there.
Those courts are no more. The population has tripled, and we have fewer public courts than we did back then.
I am a member of the Bainbridge Island Tennis Association, and we have many members of all ages, from teens to folks in their 70s, 80s and 90s. Not all of our members can afford to go to a private club, and a lot of folks prefer to play outside.
The high school tennis team uses the courts at the high school a lot. We can’t always use them. Therefore, we can’t always play when we want.
There are more and more tennis players these days, and people are able to play into their senior years. Tennis is a popular sport. I urge the powers that be to build tennis courts on the Sakai property.
