The January offerings in the Bainbridge Public Library’s art exhibition are the work of father/daughter creative duo Stephen Hubbard and Deliah Waumett.

The show opened Friday, Jan. 8. It is on display in the main conference room and will remain up throughout the month.

The exhibition will feature paintings by Waumett and photos by Hubbard.

“When my daughter Deliah asked me if I would like to share a show at the Bainbridge Library with her I was thrilled,” Hubbard said. “Not many dads get such an opportunity.”

“I decided not to show paintings but to take a chance and show photographs instead,” he added.

“I have been doing photography for a long time, documenting nature and travels around the world. This is the first time I have distilled a group of pictures I am proud of and which I am happy to share with my friends and community on the island.”

Hubbard is an interventional cardiologist, whose lifelong love of painting and photography have led to several shows of his work in the past two years.

“It’s been great fun to do a show with my dad and to see him pursue photography is a delight,” Waumett said.

“As a kid growing up I always knew my dad was a doctor, but since I only saw him painting at home and not ‘doctoring,’ I assumed he was actually an artist.

“He always painted in oils, so I tried it too — not with much success, so I gave it up. As a college student, I took up watercolors and it stuck. I had my medium and have been on a lifelong journey ever since to explore its many complexities.”
