Let’s start a Slow Down movement | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:
Why do I have to keep telling drivers to SLOW DOWN?
Last night, I was taking out the trash behind my apartment building. Just after I put the trash in the dumpster, I turned around to close the gate and a man comes flying through the parking lot. I yelled at him to slow down, his response was “your dog is not on a leash.”
He was right, but my dog was standing right next to me, and he was not on a leash because my hands had been full with trash bags. And, I was on private property, so technically he didn’t need to be on a leash.
I guess he felt that since I was in the wrong, it was alright for him to be wrong also. However, I was vindicated by the man walking on the sidewalk across the street who said, “Yeah, you tell him!”
I have written about this before, when a pedestrian was hit in the crosswalk at Winslow Way and Madison Avenue. Apparently many of the drivers on the island didn’t think it applied to them.
Maybe we need to start a “SLOW DOWN” movement. If enough of us start calling out drivers for their reckless driving they will start listening. “Yeah, you tell him!”
