Murden Cove residents raised concerns late | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:
The recent letter to the editor regarding not having any notice concerning the parking area near Murden Cove requires some clarification.
This small parking area was first proposed more than a year ago. The city council expressed support for this project at their April 2014 meeting. In their December 2014 meeting, the council directed staff to gather input from the community about the project.
Subsequently, Murden Cove Preservation Association called a meeting about this proposal on Dec. 10, 2014. No residents from the Manitou Beach waterfront area took the time to attend. Likewise, the public meeting at city hall on March 2015 received very little input from residents on Manitou Beach waterfront. Little can be done if citizens do not take the time to attend meetings and express their opinions.
Our association has been monitoring for potential environmental impacts to our area since 1978 and has successfully stopped or mitigated projects that would have had an impact on our neighborhood. We hope to continue to do so with the help of interested citizens bringing their concerns to one of our meetings.

President, Murden Cove Preservation Association
