Winslow Green will be filled with the sounds of swing and Gypsy jazz at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 11 when perennial local favorite tunesmiths Ranger and the Re-Arrangers host a free concert featuring special guest Eric Vanderbilt-Mathews.
“Winslow Green is a great spot—we can have an outdoor concert on the lawn, but we’ll still be right in town,” said bandleader Ranger Sciacca. “We’re excited to bring Eric’s incredible playing to this unique Island setting.”
According to Sciacca, Vanderbilt-Mathews has been electrifying audiences at the after hours jams of Djangofest Northwest, drawing attention even at the biggest Gypsy jazz event in America.
Over the past few years, he has won several national jazz awards including “Outstanding Soloist” at the Lionel Hampton festival.
Vanderbilt-Mathews will perform on both the clarinet and saxophone in the free Winslow concert.
The set list will include swing standards, traditional Gypsy melodies and the music of legendary jazz man Django Reinhardt.
According to Sciacca, Vanderbilt-Mathews’ improvisations will “challenge and inspire” the band’s regular soloists on violin and guitar.
The concert will run from 7 to 9 p.m.
Admission is free, but the band will collect donations.
