Community park comes closer to fruition | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

Another milestone has been reached for the community’s acquisition of a portion of the former Sakai Farm on Madison Avenue.

Standard and Poors has reaffirmed our AA bond rating and the park district’s board of commissioners has voted to authorize sale of the bonds for the purchase and preliminary development (to improve public access) beginning July 9. Recording and transfer of the property is scheduled for July 22.

The park board would like to thank the Sakai family and all of the islanders who worked hard and voted to make this long-held vision of a “Central Park” on the island one giant step closer to reality. A community-wide planning process will begin this fall. We look forward to what the future will bring.
